Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Skin cancer is the most common malignancy in Brazil and is strongly associated with inadequate sun exposure. Prevention strategies include health education, photoprotection and early recognition of suspicious lesions. Interdisciplinary approaches improve the effectiveness of these actions, especially in community-based settings. EXPERIENCE REPORT: This report describes an interdisciplinary extension activity carried out in 2025 with participation of students from Medicine and Pharmacy courses under faculty supervision. The activity was directed to visitors of a Social Service center (SESC), including adults and older individuals, and was structured in two complementary components: guidance on photoprotection, addressing types of sunscreen, sun protection factor, correct application and reapplication, and educational orientation on prevention and early identification of suspicious skin lesions using the ABCDE rule. Illustrated educational materials and accessible language were used to facilitate interaction and understanding. High engagement of participants was observed, particularly regarding practical guidance for recognition of warning signs and adoption of sun protection measures, suggesting a potential multiplier effect of the transmitted information. DISCUSSION: The integration between students from different health-related courses enabled a complementary educational approach combining clinical aspects and rational use of photoprotective strategies, increasing the reach of the intervention. The use of accessible didactic strategies improved comprehension among a heterogeneous audience and reinforced the role of university extension activities as effective tools for community health promotion and skin cancer prevention.
