International mobility in medical graduation: experience report

Abstract

Introduction: The academic mobility in universities is presented as a tool for the internationalization of Brazilian higher education, promoting the inclusion of undergraduate students in different cultural and educational backgrounds, adding both new theoretical knowledge as social and language skills. Experience report: This article is an experience report from a medical student provided by international mobility program ‘Science Without Borders’, held in a course of Health Promotion in Waterford Institute of Technology (Waterford, Ireland), from September 2014 to July 2015. This report presents academic activities performed in that institution, as well as, analyzes the contribution of exchange programs to medical graduation. Conclusion: International mobility may represent an important tool for medical training according as, encourages the professional and personal growth of the students, to expose them to a different scenario in which they are incited to discover, consider their practices and knowledge, and to face the new and different. Such contributions may represent the improvement of medical and humanistic skills of the students, by setting up as a breakthrough for medical education in Brazil.
